Sanitation 

The conservancy fleet consists of 6 trucks and 4 tipper dumpers, 14 tractors with trollies, two jcbs Refuse Compactor and one suction machine. The Board has Sanitation staff of 501 under Sanitary supdt. The Board maintains 5 sets of 20 seated and 5 sets of 10-seated sulabh shauchalayas, 315 seats of pgl and 70 urinals at various sites. The Board had given the work of cleaning of urinals on contract. meerut Cantt does not have underground sewage system so far. A proposal has been sent to the goc – in – Chief, Central Command for the same.

                         two JCB & one refuse compactor.

• Board has 10 Sualbhs with 150 seats. Besides this there are 383 seats of PGLS & - 70 Urinals at various sites. There is no dry type PGL

• Grey Areas  - Considering the vast area, growing population &occupational activities,
                           present strength of staff is  inadequate. Therefore   Board  is working on
                           privatizing/contracting some Services viz cleaning of urinals, nallahs etc.

Rs 15 lacs has been proposed for renovation and construction of additional seats of PGL.

CONSTRUCTION AND IMPROVEMENT OF EXISTING SURFACE DRAINS:

          The entire Cantonment is surrounded by Municipal Corporation and Military area. In Meerut Cantonment underground sewerage system does not exist. The smaller drains are connected to bigger drains and then are finally connected to a big Nallah known as Abu Nala. In Civil areas the existing drains require extensive renovation. It is proposed to renovate existing drains during plan period with an estimated cost of        Rs 50.00 lacs.

CONSTRUCTION OF NALLAHS

          The Cantonment is having 30 Kms of pucca drains to carry sullage water, which have been connected with various nallahs which are partly pucca and partly kutcha. These nallahs are connected with the big nallah known as Abu Nala which drains out sullage and rainy water of Cantonment area.

          The plan has proposed to make these nallahs as pucca. The details of nallahs alongwith length is as given in the table.

 During rainy season, these nallahs overflow in the nearby area which gets over flooded, causing damage to the land and disturbing normal life. The Board has proposed to spend Rs 100 lacs to construct them pucca during plan period.

SEWERAGE SYSTEM:

            As regards to sewerage system, the position of Meerut Cantonment is similar to that of other Cantonments. In the past the Board was not in position to think to lay sewerage lines in the Cantonment area because of high cost involved. Since now the Board financial position has improved, it can afford to think to lay sewerage lines in the Cantonment area. With sewerage lines Cantt Board would be abled to control most of the critical problems of the highly, populated civil areas i.e. dry type latrines privately owned, in-effectiveness and obsolescent of large main nallahs. The total expenditure for this scheme would be  15.98 crores. A proposal has been forwarded to the higher authorities for sanction (for Ist phase of Rs 9.59 crores).

URINALS:

            In the Cantonment there are 70 Public urinals. Some of them are at the important places of the Cantonment. There is a need to construct more public urinals. It has been proposed to construct more public urinals with all facilities during the plan period at an estimated cost of Rs. 20 lacs.

DUST BINS:

            In Cantonment area there are 49 dust bins. These are not sufficient to hold the garbage load in the Cantonment and in most of the area. The garbage is dumped in the open areas, which creates insanitary conditions in the Cantonment. It is proposed in the plan to build more 30 new dust bins in the civil areas. It is proposed to renovate the existing dust bins at an estimated cost of Rs  2.75 lacs and construct 30 dustbins with all facilities at an estimated cost of Rs 30 lacs during the plan period.

CULVERTS:

            The Board proposes to reconstruct the culverts to regulate the flow of sullage water at an estimated cost of Rs 20 lacs during the plan period.

TRENCHING GROUND:

            The Cantonment Board maintains trenching ground for disposal of Municipal waste of Cantt area. For its upkeep, Board proposes expenditure of Rs 20 lacs approximately.

PURCHASE OF FOGGING MACHINE:

            Presently the Board has a small fogging machine. Epidemic of Malaria, Dengu Fever and Japanese Encephalitis continuously are reported expanding in India. To avoid any occurrence of such epidemics in Cantonment area, Board proposes to purchase one fogging machine with light vehicle chasis like Tata 407, Swaraj Mazada etc. The total cost of fogging machine & Light vehicle chasis would be Rs 12.00  lacs (6.00 lacs + 6.00 lacs).
